Emma's Pigs Open Day
19th July 2008, at Preston on Wye Village Hall - from 3pm
To raise awareness of all the British Rare Breed Pigs we held a Piggy Open Day on the 19th July.
This was a fun packed day, which also raised just over £200 for the Heartlung charity.
The day started with a piggy quiz which was extremely well fought over, with three people getting full marks. The overall winner, Alison Wibmer, was decided by Billy Montague (representing the Heartlung Transplant Fund) from the tie breaker statements
- " My favourite rare breed pig is the Oxford Sandy and Black because I spotted they have the happy knack of bringing home the bacon"
- "My favourite rare breed pig is the Middle White. The Emperor of Japan can't be wrong, it is talkative and delicious not to mention it looks like Edward Cullen"
- "My favourite rare breed pig is the Middle White because it is very rare has unusual features (E.g. a squashed nose) and makes a really weird noise".
Congratulations Alison - your delicious BBQ pack is on its way!
Then there was a very interesting talk and tasting session from Chef Nick Bryan who cooked up sausages, chops and belly pork and compared them to the supermarkets "finest" ranges.
Tractor rides up to the field to meet the pigs and to learn about the different breeds came next.
Finally all were treated to a pork roll (our own Berkshire and Tamworth pork) with a large selection of salad.
The day went extremely well with over 90 visitors flocking to Preston-on-Wye to see Emma's Pigs.
